Chelsea will not be sending Conor Gallagher out on loan this season after reports of a rejected offer from West Ham United.
The 22-year-old midfielder became a fan favourite at Selhurst Park last season after making 39 appearances in all competitions for Crystal Palace last term. Gallagher’s form in the Eagles midfield earned him his first England senior call-ups and he was voted the club’s player of the season by fans.
Palace boss Patrick Vieira made it no secret last season that he would want Gallagher to return for another year, but the midfielder looks set to be staying with parent club Chelsea after making his debut for the London side in their 1-0 win against Everton on Saturday.
The Guardian reports that West Ham made an attempt to sign Gallagher on loan, but the midfielder has decided he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge. Newcastle United and Palace are also said to have made an enquiry to bring Gallagher in on loan recently, according to 90min.
Gallagher was one of four Chelsea players who made their debut against Everton, including Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, and £62million signing Marc Cucurella. But the 22-year-old faces an uphill task in breaking into the Blues’ starting midfield, with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic ahead in the pecking order.
