We could be one step closer to seeing Wesley Fofana in a Chelsea shirt according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer specialist has posted a new video in which he’s spoken about all the latest developments in the market, including the latest on Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong and where they stand with Adrien Rabiot.
But he began his latest YouTube post on Leicester City defender Fofana and Chelsea’s desire to sign him, because there has been movement on that front in the last few days.
The 21-year-old defender has caught the eye in recent seasons for the Foxes. He suffered a horrific broken leg injury last August in a pre-season friendly but returned for the final weeks of last season and has featured in their first two matches of the new season against Brentford and Arsenal.
On Saturday, he waved to the Leicester travelling supporters following their 4-2 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, but Brendan Rodgers does not believe this was goodbye.
“You write he’s saying farewell. That’s your story. I think he was giving the fans a clap. I didn’t see it as a farewell. But you need to write what you need to write,” Rodgers told reporters.
Chelsea have reportedly had two bids for the Frenchman turned down, but they are not giving up on their top transfer target.
Subsequent reports have suggested that Leicester will only sell if they receive a bid in excess of £80million, which would surpass the world-record fee for a centre-back that Manchester United paid them for Harry Maguire back in 2019.

“I’m starting with Wesley Fofana because there is an agreement in principle between Wesley Fofana and Chelsea on the contract,” said Romano.
“So personal terms are set to be agreed. Wesley Fofana wants to join Chelsea. He’s really happy with Chelsea’s interest. He wants to go to Chelsea.
“He’s been clear with Leicester, with the board, with the manager; he’s decided to join Chelsea as soon as possible.
“He knows that Todd Boehly and Wesley Fofana are doing their best to sign Wesley Fofana as soon as possible, but at the moment the negotiation is yet to be complete.
“Chelsea will try with another bid in the next days. Chelsea are preparing this bid. They want to push again, they want to try again, because Fofana is their priority after missing many centre-backs during the market.”
