Casemiro’s transfer from Real Madrid to Manchester United is getting “closer and closer” according to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, who has also brought us an update on the fee and wages United could pay for and to the Brazilian.
Manchester United are desperate to sign a new holding midfielder after losing their two opening Premier League games, 2-1 at home to Brighton and 4-0 away to Brentford.
Erik ten Hag’s squad looks particularly thin in that department, with the performances of Fred and Scott McTominay once again the focus of much criticism in recent weeks.
And it appears they are now honing in on the solution – and quite the solution it is too: Real Madrid’s 30-year-old midfield destroyer Casemiro.
The Brazilian has been one of the key parts in one of the most successful football teams of this – or indeed any other – era.
In his eight full seasons as a Real Madrid player, Casemiro has won five Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and a host of Super Cups.
He also lifted the Copa America in 2019 with Brazil and has 63 caps for the Selecao.
In all, it’s fair to say he’s established himself as a great already, so Manchester United’s interest is perfectly understandable.
And according to Romano, a deal to take the Brazilian from Real Madrid is edging nearer by the hour.
In his latest YouTube video, Romano began: “I told you two days ago, Casemiro, dream signing for Manchester United.
“A difficult one after calling the Adrien Rabiot deal off because of what he asked for as a salary and a separate fee, a signing fee.
“Then Manchester United have been exploring this Casemiro option. Not an easy one, but John Murtough has been on it in Madrid, to negotiate on the club and player’s side.
“Thursday was a key day to negotiate, the feeling was confident.”

Romano continued: “Friday is going to be the day to decide the Casemiro deal. This is the expectation internally at Manchester United because they will submit an official proposal for Casemiro during the night [Thursday to Friday, European time].
“We know Manchester United’s owners are in the States, and this is why timing is important.
“But the official bid will be €60million guaranteed plus €10million in add-ons, part of these add-ons is easy to achieve and part is more difficult. But it’s a potential €70million total fee…
“This is the mission for Manchester United’s board, with an official bid coming really soon.”
Moving onto the contract for the player, Romano contradicted reports that have suggested Casemiro could double his salary if he accepts the move to Manchester.
Romano said: “A four-year deal until 2026, with an option for a further season. The salary will be more than Real Madrid, but not double the salary.
“So the conditions have been discussed with Casemiro, the player is absolutely tempted, the player will speak again in the morning to Carlo Ancelotti about the proposal he received from Manchester United.
“The two clubs will be in direct contact on this proposal from Manchester United, and so now, Casemiro is getting closer and closer to joining Manchester United.”
To conclude, Romano added: “Man United hope to complete everything of the Casemiro deal – documents, medical, and all the details – in 48 hours. But let’s respect Real Madrid, because they have to accept the proposal, to accept all the details and then to complete this package.”
