Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has posted a new video update in which he claims that Manchester United are working on six different deals before the end of the window.
The club have already responded to their dismal start to the Premier League campaign by reaching an agreement over five-time Champions League winner Casemiro. Pending a visa, the 30-year-old Brazil international will arrive from Real Madrid for a £60million fee.
However, it looks like there’s more work to be done to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad if they’re to make up ground on the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham.
Recent reports have suggested that the club’s next top priority is a winger. Once again, they’re turning their attention to the Eredivisie, having already signed Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
Ajax’s Brazilian star Antony is said to be their top target. The 23-year-old and his agent are pushing to make a move to Old Trafford happen after United’s £67million bid was rejected last week.
Antony has skipped training and wasn’t part of Ajax’s squad against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday. The club want to keep him, but the latest from Romano is that the player will make one more push to force through a move later this week.
PSV winger Cody Gakpo, who is also 23 and actually registered better attacking numbers than Antony in the Dutch top flight last term, is believed to be their cheaper backup target.
So who else could be coming through the door at Carrington in the coming days?
“It’s not over, because Manchester United are working on many deals,” began Romano.
“New second goalkeeper Yann Sommer is in the list, but we know it is not easy because Borussia Monchengladbach are offering him a new three-year deal and he wants to be an important player because of the World Cup upcoming.
“But also Odysseas Vlachodimos, the goalkeeper from Benfica, is attracting interest from Ajax, from Manchester United – so Vlachodimos could be an opportunity in the next days, but it depends on the price, because it’s never easy to negotiate with Benfica.
“Not only the second goalkeeper, of course. Let’s see what happens with the other targets in different positions.
“Of course, we need to see what’s happening with Cristiano Ronaldo in the next weeks, because they will be pretty busy with Cristiano and the final decision to make on his future.
“Then, about the outgoings, there’s a deal with Olympique Marseille for Eric Bailly.
“[It is] a loan with an option to buy in case OM qualify for the next Champions League, but still no agreement between Bailly and Marseille on the personal terms.”
