Man Utd’s transfer position on Harry Maguire as Chelsea tipped to make surprise swoop
MAN UTD defender Harry Maguire was dropped for the club’s game against Liverpool.
Manchester United do not plan to sell captain Harry Maguire despite the defender losing his place under Erik ten Hag, according to reports. Maguire has been linked with a move to Chelsea but the Blues are prioritising signing Leicester starlet Wesley Fofana.
United head coach Ten Hag dropped Maguire for the Red Devils’ Premier League clash with Liverpool on Monday. The England centre-back’s form has been poor over the last 18 months.
Maguire has even been linked with a departure from Old Trafford this summer, with Chelsea attempting to sign another defender. Wide-ranging reports linked the Blues with a player-exchange deal involving Maguire and their forward, Christian Pulisic.
That now seems unlikely, though, especially as United would likely want to sign a replacement in the next nine days of the transfer window. The Old Trafford transfer hierarchy do not want to sell the player, who in turn wants to fight for his place in the United starting 11.
That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims that no talks are ongoing between United and Chelsea over a possible switch for Maguire. Chelsea are prioritising a move for Leicester’s Fofana.
The France U21 international has been left out of the Foxes’ last two matchday squads and is training with the club’s U21s. Head coach Brendan Rodgers revealed on Tuesday that Fofana had missed a training session.
“He’s training with the Under 21s so he can get his football fitness and keep working,” Rodgers said. “It’s so important at this stage to control any sort of distractions that may be there. He’s a good kid, it’s just been a really challenging situation for him.
I’ve had it a number of times in my career where there’s players who can deal with it, cope with it, get on, want to help their team-mates. There’s others that just can’t deal with with the distraction.

“Of course that distracts them and it’s not quite right, and they miss a training session, then you need the full commitment from your players. These guys get well paid. The very least you can do is turn up. And if you don’t, with all due respect, you can’t then just think you can walk into our group.
“But like I say, within day to day, he’s a good kid. It’s just been hard for him to deal with everything, and whilst he’s in that frame of mind, it’s been difficult for him to play.”..TAP.TO.READ MORE.
Rodgers confirmed that Chelsea had made a third bid for Fofana this week, which has been rejected by Leicester. The Midlands outfit value the defender at around £85m.
