Liverpool submitting deadline-day bid for midfielder with 5 PL starts this season
Liverpool are readying a deadline-day bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, sources have told Football Insider.
The Merseyside giants are rivalling Chelsea to land the Ecuador international, 20, before Thursday’s transfer cut-off.
The two giants have both registered their interest in Caicedo as they look to beef up their midfield options for the first half of the season.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed last week he is in the market for a central midfield signing following Liverpool’s slower than expected start to the new campaign.
He backtracked slightly on that assertion earlier this week while revealing that the midfielder he had been trying to sign earlier in the summer opted to join another club.
It is believed that player is Aurelien Tchouameni, the Frenchman who joined Real Madrid on 1 July in a £54million deal.
Caicedo is two years younger than the Spanish giants’ marquee capture but is already established in the Brighton team.
He has started all five of their Premier League matches this term, including Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham.
A defensive midfielder who is versatile enough to also operate further forward and out wide, Caicedo played key roles in wins this season over Man United, West Ham and Leeds United.
He joined Brighton in January 2021 from Argentine club Independiente for a fee of around £4.5million.

He has made only 15 appearances in total for the Seagulls and has a contract with the club until 2025.
