JUST IN: Merson tells Arteta not to start £30m Arsenal player v Manchester United

Paul Merson has written on SportsKeeda that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should not include Fabio Vieira in the starting lineup against Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal will take on Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the league on Sunday afternoon.

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Merson believes that 22-year-old Vieira, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, should not start against Erik ten Hag’s team.

If Martin Odegaard is injured for the match, then, according to Merson, Emile Smith Rowe should start against the Red Devils.
Paul Merson on Fabio Vieira for Arsenal v Manchester United

Merson wrote on SportsKeeda: “If Odegaard is injured, I’d go with Emile Smith Rowe – for Fabio Vieira to start this Premier League game is a big ask. Arsenal can’t afford to lose, and they don’t need to win this game right now – a draw should suffice.”

Arsenal manger Mikel Arteta has said that attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard is doubtful for the match.

The former Real Madrid playmaker has been arguably the best player for the Gunners so far this season.

If the Norwegian does not start, then, in our view, Emile Smith Rowe is his natural replacement.

Vieira, who cost Arsenal £30 million upfront in transfer fees in the summer transfer window (Sky Sports), is better off coming on as a substitute against Manchester United..TAP.TO.CONTINUE.READING

After all, Smith Rowe is more experienced and arguably a better player than Vieira.
