BREAKING: Paul Scholes singles out Lisandro Martinez for Man Utd’s stunning form and fears for defender after injury scare
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Paul Scholes has lauded Lisandro Martinez’s determination – and said it would be a “worry” if the defender was injured.
Martinez has started all six of United’s Premier League games this season, and picked up the club’s Player of the Month for August.
Paul Scholes praised the defender for the impact he has had at Old Trafford
After being hooked at half-time against Brentford in his second game for the Red Devils, Martinez has gone from strength to strength.
The 24-year-old was superb in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal.
And Scholes singled out Martinez for helping the Red Devils become more “solid” at the back.
But there was concern for the £55million summer signing when he was replaced by Harry Maguire against Arsenal after he appeared to pick up a groin injury.
Scholes said: “At United it’s about the determination more than anything.
“You know the talent is there but it’s about getting up to people, stopping people, getting up to people, being solid at the back.
“Having that solid back four now is helping them.
“Martinez coming out of that might be a worry going forward.”
Fortunately for United, reports claim Martinez was substituted by boss Erik ten Hag as a precaution.
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness also commented on the impact Martinez has had since his transfer.
Souness reckons Mohamed Salah hasn’t been the same player since he came up against Martinez last month.
The Argentine defender impressed as United beat the Reds 2-1 to register their first win of the season.
Souness said: “I’m looking at Salah for Liverpool against Man United and in the first five minutes Martinez goes right through him.
“The rest of the game, Mo Salah looked for Martinez and looked for where he was.
“I’ve not seen the same Mo Salah since. I just hope – and he’s signed the big contract he wanted, but at this level if you knock off half a per cent or one per cent then you are not the same player.

People have learnt where the phrase ‘cats have nine lives’ comes from
“I hope this is not him getting semi into his armchair because he has signed a big contract.
“I’m saying that as a Liverpool supporter, hopefully to make him angry and prove me wrong.”
Graeme Souness said he has “not seen the same” Mo Salah since the Liverpool star came up against Martinez
