Chelsea sounded out impressive Sporting manager as Potter backup

Chelsea have settled on Graham Potter as their new manager, and the Brighton boss has already verbally agreed to take over at Stamford Bridge.

As far as we know, he’s at the Brighton training ground now saying his goodbyes.

But he wasn’t the only candidate considered. We’ve already heard that Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane were in the frame, and earlier this morning Nizaar Kinsella came up with an even more intriguing name.

Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim is being considered to be the new Chelsea manager.

Graham Potter seen as the frontrunner after interviews yesterday but he is back at Brighton.

Mauricio Pochettino is still in contention.

Chelsea want to run a full process before deciding

Ruben Amorim is one of the hottest coaching prospects in football, leading unfancied Sporting Lisbon to a league title in Portugal last year after a rapid rise through the ranks.

Chelsea have apparently considered him, and are clearly keeping a close eye on the Portuguese. If things fail at the last with Potter, we expect Amorim to be among the favourites to take over in his place – and one of the top candidates to take over when Potter is sacked.
