BREAKING: Arsenal receive Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer warning amid Mikel Arteta’s right-back plan
Mikel Arteta should be warned by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent form as he plans Arsenal’s right back future.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been one of the most potent attacking full-backs in Europe for the past few seasons. Arsenal have watched on as the England international and his teammates have overtaken the Gunners and gone on to win a Premier League and Champions League title.
However, with a difficult start to the season for the Reds, Arsenal have capitalised and sit at the top of the Premier League table after six games. This has led to many suggesting the opportunity for the Gunners to claim a top-four place is even more possible than preseason suggestions might have had us believe.
Mikel Arteta has overhauled his side and despite claims of similarities in recruitment to Liverpool and tactical mirroring of Manchester City, the Spaniard has found his own path. Alexander-Arnold has faced recent criticism in particular for his defensive duties either not being good enough or even accused of being neglected.
One of the key differences that Arteta has brought to his side is a right-back who is of complete contrast to the Liverpool man. Both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White who are the first two options for the Arsenal manager are considerably more defensive in style.
There have been suggestions that the Gunners should consider a transfer for a contrasting right-back who could offer what Trent Alexander-Arnold does for Liverpool. However, perhaps the 23-year-old’s recent form and defensive vulnerability, which has exposed Jurgen Klopp’s side, should come as a warning to the Gunners.
Arsenal saw as recently as last weekend their side become exposed on the counterattack even with the more defensively-minded White in the right-back role. It was made worse after the substitution of Oleksandr Zinchenko, as United scored their third with another goal on a quick break.
Arteta clearly has a right-back style in mind with the inclusion of White and Tomiyasu. The role provides balance to the side and allows the more offensive Zinchenko or Kieran Tierney the greater freedom to support the attack.
If there is a need to find a new right-back in the near future, which could be required should Cedric Soares’ time with the club come to an end, observing the struggles of a top side with an unbalanced option could come into the fold.
That said, Arsenal have a youth talent in Brooke Norton-Cuffy who has shown plenty of promise both offensively and defensively. He has spoken out about how he relishes winning one-on-one defensive duels but also how he enjoys supporting the attack..TAP.TO.CONTINUE.READING
Potentially, having spent this season on loan with Rotherham, Norton-Cuffy could be a future option for Arteta. football.london understands he has been admired by the Spaniard for some time.
