Arsenal have been told to sign Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister by former player Emmanuel Petit to help solve their current midfield problems. It comes as the Gunners deal with injury issues within their central ranks, causing concern over their depth during a busy period of the campaign.

Injuries to duo Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny leaves the squad thin and caused Mikel Arteta to look into the transfer market at the very last moment. A move for Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa was attempted, but didn’t come off as the Gunners had to settle for their final squad.

“The club has done a phenomenal job and put everything on the table to try to bring the players and the profiles we wanted,” Arteta said on summer arrivals. “We did business pretty early but unfortunately in the last 72 hours, Thomas [Partey] got injured in the same place he got injured last time and then Mo [Mohamed Elneny] has a long-term injury and we had to react in the market.

“We tried but at the end of the day, we have to bring the player that we feel is the right player for the team and as well for the club and we didn’t manage to do that.”

It means that Arteta will have to make the most of his squad until January, where he will be given another chance to strengthen in the transfer window. The timing of that may come at an advantage to the side too, given the lack of fixtures from November to late December due to the World Cup.

With the need to bolster the midfield, former player Emmanuel Petit has called upon the Gunners to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. He told Lord Ping: “Not signing Arthur Melo isn’t a big miss for Arsenal. I know they were looking for that link between the midfield and striker and if I were Edu [the technical director], I’d make an offer for Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton – I really like him.”.TAP.TO.CONTINUE.READING

It could see Arsenal take advantage of the Seagulls losing manager Graham Potter, who recently joined Chelsea as the new head coach. It remains to be seen how Brighton will cope, however the midfielder could be a huge addition for the club in the winter transfer window.
