Potter could add another English face to his new Chelsea squad.

Todd Boehly is building an English core to his Chelsea squad as the overhaul of players continues despite the transfer window’s closure.

Although Graham Potter’s nationality wasn’t a reason behind his appointment, the coach joins an ever-growing cohort of Englishman at the club. Alongside international stars Raheem Sterling, Reece James, Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher both have caps whilst Trevoh Chalobah is also eligible for Gareth Southgate’s side.

There is also a group of promising young players coming from the academy, on top of signing England U19 star Carney Chukwuemeka, including Harvey Vale and Charlie Webster. It’s a push that has built up a core of homegrown stars that also know the country, league and club, and it’s something that is set to continue.

In a shock move, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is being tipped as someone that Boehly wants to bring to the club. The 24-year-old is currently in contract negotiations with the Red Devils as his deal expires next summer, and Boehly is monitoring the progress, hoping to make a surprise move in January, according to Italian publication La Repubblica.

The versatile forward, who has made 12 England appearances, has started the season well for his club, already scoring three times and assisting twice. It comes as an upturn in form for a player that has dropped off in recent seasons, only getting four goals and two assists in the whole of the last campaign, struggling through injuries.

He had previously been valued at over £120million by the club, say ESPN after Paris Saint-Germain reportedly made him a target of their own this summer. That is not a price Chelsea would pay, but if they were to make a move in January he could be available for a cut-price or even have negotiations opened for a possible free transfer.

Rashford’s ability to play across the frontline as a striker and winger would also make him valuable to new manager Potter..TAP.TO.CONTINUE.READING

Rashford, it is written, is understood to want to remain at Old Trafford but given his large wages, up to £12million a year, nothing has been agreed as of yet and pouncing on this would be just the sort of instinctive move that Boehly is trying to make the most of.
