Professionals issues ‘massive’ Marquinhos claim after Arsenal transfer U-turn
Noel Whelan has backed Marquinhos to “chip in with some valuable goals” this season after his impressive Arsenal debut.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 19-year-old could take the pressure off the Gunners’ first-choice attackers.
Marquinhos grabbed a goal and an assist on his Arsenal debut as Mikel Arteta’s side defeated FC Zurich 3-1 in the Europa League on Thursday (8 September).
The winger has also notched three goals and one assist in three games in Premier League 2 competition.
Marquinhos signed a five-year deal in June after joining Arsenal from Sao Paulo from £3million.
As per the London Evening Standard (9 September), the youngster was slated for a loan away from the London club this summer – but the club changed their minds after he impressed Arteta.
Whelan hailed the “really talented youngsters” within the Arsenal ranks.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s massive for him.
“They’ll be so happy to see goals coming from elsewhere – not just that first-choice front three.
“They’ve got some really talented youngsters at Arsenal, and there’s no reason why they can’t kick on and chip in with some valuable goals this season.
