Possibility Man United sign Santiago Arias ‘increasing’
A Man United move to sign Santiago Arias is looking more likely.
Not too long ago, we covered a claim which suggested that Manchester United were keen on bringing Santiago Arias to Old Trafford.
Given the current right-back situation, a United move to sign Arias definitely makes some sense. Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t really getting minutes under Erik ten Hag, while Diogo Dalot needs some back-up help.
Arias, aged 30, is someone who’d bring some experience to the table. He’s also got experience aplenty at playing at a high level with Atletico Madrid.
The problem Arias has had recently is staying fit. It’s why he’s currently a free agent, meaning it would be a gamble to bring him in.
According to the latest information from Antena 2, with the translation coming via Sport Witness, the possibility of seeing United sign the 30-year-old defender is ‘increasing more and more’.
Ten Hag is familiar with what Arias can offer. While the current United boss was at Ajax, Arias was plying his trade for PSV. Apparently, that spell ‘weighs heavily’ on Ten Hag, who was seemingly impressed with what the Colombia international had to offer.
It’s also explained by Antena 2 that Arias is fluent in English, which could end up being a vital factor in any potential move to bring in the 30-year-old right-back.
At this point, it feels like it’s worth the gamble. I know Dalot has been in great form of late, but we’re yet to see the consistency from the Portugal international. At the very least, a move for Arias would spur Dalot to continue doing what he’s doing – as the veteran would absolutely provide stern competition for that starting spot.
