BREAKING: Tottenham put off by asking price for Italian international
Tottenham Hotspur saw their interest in Nicolo Barella rebuffed by Inter Milan early in the summer transfer window, according to the print edition of the Corriere dello Sport.
The north Londoners are reported to have made contact with the Serie A giants to enquire over the availability of the midfielder only to find that Inter had no intention of parting company with the Italian international.
Spurs head coach Antonio Conte is familiar with the ability of the Italian international having worked with the 25-year-old during his time at Inter where he guided the club to the Scudetto in the 2020/21 campaign.
Tottenham were told of Inter’s valuation of Barella which saw them instead turn their attention elsewhere with Yves Bissouma having been recruited from Brighton to help bolster Conte’s midfield options.
Corriere dello Sport (print edition – 13/09/22)
Barella would have been a shrewd signing for Tottenham but it would have taken a club-record fee to land the highly-regarded Italian, with Bissouma being available for a relative bargain at £25million, it is clear to see why Fabio Paratici decided to move in another direction.
Bissouma has endured a difficult start but has to come into the reckoning for selection at home to Leicester this weekend after the disappointing performance from Hojbjerg against Sporting earlier this week.
