I Have Resumed Office As ADC National Chairman – Nafiu Bala Denies Resigning

Nafiu Bala, the factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denied resigning as deputy national chairman, rejecting a viral letter that claimed he stepped down...READ FULL; FROM THE SOURCE.

Naija News reports that the controversy began after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) addressed the party’s leadership dispute on Wednesday.

Bala appeared in a video speaking Hausa, clarifying that the resignation letter attributed to him, dated May 17, 2025, was not genuine and contained a forged signature.

Bala explained that he became acting national chairman after the former leadership, including Ralph Nwosu, resigned on July 2, 2025.

He said the party constitution allows the deputy chairman to take over when there is no leader, and he has resumed office following this guideline.

He also noted that any genuine resignation from him would be on official letterhead.

He said: “My name is Hon. Nafiu Bala, the ADC acting national chairman.

“I would like to use this opportunity to address a document currently circulating, which claims that I resigned from my position as national vice chairman on May 17th.

“I wish to state that this paper did not come from me, and that is not my signature on it. The signature you see there was forged.”

Bala had previously dismissed the alleged resignation in August 2025, calling it false and misleading.

The dispute has led to legal battles between Bala and former Senate President David Mark, who is also involved in the party’s leadership tussle.

Mark claimed Bala resigned on May 17, 2025, and that INEC was informed on August 12, 2025.

Despite this, Bala went to court on September 2, 2025, asking to be recognized as acting national chairman and to prevent Mark’s team from presenting themselves as leaders.

The federal high court in Abuja began hearing the matter, and Bala sought to stop party activities until the suit was resolved.

Mark challenged the court’s jurisdiction, but on March 12, 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed his case, ruling it was without merit.

Bala’s position as acting chairman remains recognized, keeping him at the centre of the ADC leadership struggle.
