According to the Ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mamud Hassan, the evacuation was necessary because the government could not ignore the reports of insecurity and unrest in Jos.

He emphasized that the safety of Lagos indigenes studying outside the state is a top priority for the government.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, who personally received the returning students, commended the cooperation between the Lagos State Government, security agencies, and the Plateau State authorities.

He explained that every measure was taken to ensure that the students were moved out of the flashpoints without incident.

“The safety and well-being of our citizens, particularly our youth pursuing education across the country, remain a top priority for this administration,” Hassan stated.

“We are grateful to the President for restoring calm in Plateau State, and we appreciate the efforts of security agencies in helping to safely evacuate our students.”

In addition, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adeniran Kasali, reassured parents and guardians that the students were well cared for upon arrival.

All returning students were debriefed, checked for their physical and mental wellness, and then safely reunited with their families.

The evacuation operation was coordinated by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Education and Student Union Affairs, Mr. Samuel Kappo, who worked closely with the Ministry to ensure the process was smooth and orderly.

The Lagos State Government has stated that it will continue to monitor the situation in Plateau State and the University of Jos, remaining ready to take further action if necessary.

The government also prays for a swift return to peace and stability in the state so that students can resume their academic activities without fear.

This evacuation reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting its citizens, especially young people, and ensuring that their education continues despite challenges posed by insecurity in other parts of the country.
