If an ATM Doesn’t Give Cash After Withdrawal, Do This Immediately

ATMs make life easier until the day you try to withdraw money, the machine deducts the amount from your account, but no cash comes out.

This situation can be frustrating, especially when you urgently need the money. But don’t panic here’s exactly what to do to get your money back quickly and safely.

1. Stay Calm and Don’t Leave Immediately..READ FULL; FROM THE SOURCE.

If your ATM doesn’t dispense cash, wait for about 1–2 minutes.

Sometimes, the machine may be processing slowly due to a temporary network delay.

If the cash still doesn’t come out, take note of the time, location, and ATM ID number (usually printed on the body of the machine).

2. Check Your Bank Balance

Before assuming the money is lost, check your account balance using your bank’s mobile app or USSD code.

If the money was not deducted, your transaction simply failed, and there’s nothing to worry about.

If it was deducted, continue with the next steps.

3. Don’t Try Another Withdrawal Right Away

Avoid withdrawing again immediately.

If the first transaction is still being processed, you could risk a double debit.

Wait at least 30 minutes before attempting another withdrawal.

4. File a Complaint Immediately

If the amount was deducted but no cash was dispensed:

Visit your bank branch or call customer service.

Provide the transaction reference number, date, and ATM location.

Most banks will reverse the money within 24 to 72 hours, especially if the ATM belongs to the same bank.

If it was an interbank transaction (you used a different bank’s ATM), the refund could take up to 5 working days, but it will still be resolved.

5. Keep All Transaction Details

Always keep your ATM slip, note the exact time, and ATM ID number.

These details help the bank trace your transaction faster.

If you used a third-party ATM (another bank’s), you can also contact that bank’s support center for faster coordination.
