Nigeria has been ranked 116th out of 193 countries in the 2025 Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI), a global measure of government effectiveness. The report reveals A Wide Gap between Nigeria and other top-performing African countries, as it failed to make the continent’s top five.

The country missed Africa’s top five, which are Mauritius, Rwanda, Botswana, Morocco, and South Africa.
Nigeria’s highest rank was 89th in Financial Stewardship.
Its lowest score was 120th in the “Helping People Rise” pillar.
The country also scored low in Strong Institutions and Robust Laws and Policies.
The report notes that most African countries, including Nigeria, dropped in position.
This is despite a slight improvement in Nigeria’s Corruption Perceptions Index ranking
