Balaka Police have arrested a 41-year-old driver for causing the death of a local businessman.
Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha identified the driver as Steven Gerald, while the deceased has been named Salimu Ibrahim Mulla, 61, a businessman from Mponda Village in Traditional Authority Nsamala, Balaka District.

According to M’bumpha, the accident occurred in Mpezeni Area and involved a Mercedes Benz lorry, registration number BD 5201, driven by Gerald. The accident happened when Gerald attempted to overtake an unknown pedal cyclist and collided head-on with Mulla, who was riding a motorcycle. Mulla sustained multiple fractures to his arms and legs, along with severe head injuries, and died on the spot. The driver escaped unhurt.

M’bumpha confirmed that Gerald will appear in court soon to answer charges related to the incident.
