Boundary Tensions Rise Between Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku as Obi Ajudua Seeks Government Intervention

By: Ike Philip Abiagom:- A growing boundary dispute between Ibusa (Igbuzo) and Ogwashi-Uku communities in Delta State has sparked renewed concern, with calls for urgent government intervention to prevent escalation and preserve longstanding peace between the neighbouring communities...READ FULL; FROM THE SOURCE.

The appeal was made by Obi( Dr.) Henry Chukwuma Ajudua, the President of Vebron Carre Conglomerates, USA, who urged both the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Delta State Government to address what he described as alleged encroachment on Ibusa ancestral lands by Ogwashi-Uku.

The Ogwashi-Uku community is led by Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, whose leadership has been mentioned in connection with the ongoing disagreement. At the center of the dispute are claims over land ownership and jurisdiction, alongside concerns about the reported attempt to alter the officially recognized location of the Admiralty University of Nigeria.

According to Obi Ajudua, the university is a federal institution legally designated as being located in Ibusa, and any attempt to change its identity or location raises significant legal and ethical questions.

The situation is further complicated by references to a ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered in 1986, which reportedly resolved the boundary issue in favour of Ibusa. Community leaders insist that full compliance with the judgment remains outstanding.

Also lending his voice is His Royal Majesty, Obi(Prof) Louis Chelunor Nwoboshi, alongside other stakeholders from Ibusa, who have expressed concern over what they describe as continued disregard for the court’s decision.

They warn that failure to uphold the ruling undermines the authority of the judiciary and could erode confidence in the rule of law.

Despite rising tensions, Ibusa residents have been commended for maintaining calm and avoiding violence.

Community leaders emphasized that their approach remains rooted in lawful and peaceful means, even as they assert their right to protect ancestral heritage.

Obi Ajudua called on indigenes of Ibusa at home and abroad to remain united and law-abiding, urging them to channel their grievances through legal and constructive avenues rather than resorting to self-help.

He further stressed that timely action by authorities is critical to preventing escalation. According to him, any delay or inaction could heighten tensions and lead to avoidable conflict.

Among the key demands raised are the enforcement of the Supreme Court judgment, an immediate halt to alleged encroachment, protection of the university’s legal status, and proactive measures to safeguard peace in the area.

While reaffirming that Ibusa seeks peace and not conflict, Ajudua maintained that justice, respect for lawful judgments, and protection of community rights must remain paramount.
Observers note that how authorities respond in the coming days may play a decisive role in determining whether the dispute is resolved peacefully or allowed to deteriorate further.
