Former presidential aide and social media commentator Reno Omokri has stated that Nigeria now has a President who appreciates sports.
This was after President Bol Tinubu honoured each of the players in Nigeria’s women’s senior basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000, a house and national honours for winning the 2025 Afrobasket in Cote d’Ivoire...READ FULL; FROM THE SOURCE.
D’Tigress won the tournament by defeating Senegal 75–68 in the final in Abidjan.
MyNigeria reported that Tinubu had given a similar gift to each of the Super Falcons players the previous week for winning the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
The Falcons won the tournament by coming from two goals down to defeat the host country, Morocco, 3-2.
Reacting to the rewards received by the teams, Omokri expressed the belief that they indicate President Tinubu’s appreciation for sports.
He shared on X, ‘$100,000 for each D’Tigress player, plus an apartment and a National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.
