Next time you are staying in a hotel, you may want to consider the advice of inventor and entrepreneur, Lori Greiner, who believes there are three things in every room you should never use. The 56-year old found fame on shopping channel QVC, before becoming an investor on ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ in the United States.
Lori’s biggest concern is hygenie and the spread of germs, which she issued caution over in a TikTok video. “Never, ever use these three things in a hotel room,” she began.
1. Soap and Shampoo
“First is the wall-mounted refillable containers of soap and shampoo,” Lori advised her 2.5 million followers. While they may look “clean and safe”, she said, according to researchers around 75 per cent were found to contain levels of bacteria that aren’t safe for your skin.
Lori added: “Most of the time, they are just refilled – not cleaned out – which means bacteria can build up inside.”
2. Hairdryer
Perhaps not an item you’d expect to pose a threat to your health, Lori expressed caution over the hotel room’s hairdryer.
“It’s one of the most handled and least disinfected in the entire room,” she said. “Guests touch it with unwashed hands, place it on bathroom counters, and it rarely gets deep cleaned in between stays.”
Lori again said researchers have found that hotel hair dryers are covered in much higher levels of bacteria than personal-use hair dryers at home.
3. Kettle
In a similar vein, Lori highlighted kettles as another potential danger. “This one is rough,” she declared. “Did you know some people have used the kettle to was socks and small undergarments?”
Lori went on to claim that kettles are “hardly ever fully sanitised” between guests. She added: “So if you need hot water, call the front desk and ask for some.”
She closed her clip by summarising: “Think twice before using what looks clean.”
Writing in response, one TikTok user claimed: “The worst are the blankets, those are rarely cleaned because of how bulky they are, some hotels wash once a week.”
A second person alleged: “Also, never use the cups/spoons because they are often cleaned with the same cloth that they clean the bathroom, including the toilet, with.”
A third revealed: “Never ever use these things. I always take my organic body shower. And I take my own towel, bed sheets and pillows cases and first time I enter the room I wipe door knobs and TV remote control with disinfectant wipes.”
While a fourth admitted: “I also get paranoid that the previous guests have tampered with the shampoo. Can’t trust anybody these days.”
